Roman numerals were used in Europe before Arabic numerals (actually Indian numerals) were introduced. They are less used now. They were created later than the numerals in Chinese oracle bone inscriptions and later than the decimal numerals of the Egyptians. However, their creation marked the progress of an ancient civilization.
